Nearly nine-month-old babies babbled. A lot. But Nathaniel's babblings were beginning to sound more and more like words. Instead of "Uh uh uh" and "ummaummaumma" and gurgles, he had started a litany of "mu mu mu mu" that when put together sound suspiciously like "mum" which amused his mother to no end.

But it was the other babble. The other "first word" kind of babble that was really making her sit up and listen. "Da da da" of course, but only when Henry was in the room.

It was exceptionally fun to listen to him go from "mu mu mu" to "da da da", especially when she was doing something like cooking dinner, like now, and she wasn't paying attention. Because he was like her little alarm.

"Mu mu mu mu mu," he said.

"Yes, Mum is cooking," she said back. She liked talking to him, especially when she couldn't hold him. Safety first in the kitchen. She had her back turned to him, stirring the pot of pasta when his words changed, and he shrieked happily.

"Da DA DA DA," he crowed.

She sits upright at the desk with the baby strapped into his baby seat on the desk where she can touch him easily.

Or could, if she weren't currently asleep

After all, she was home alone last night. No one made her go to bed. So she TRIED to accomplish something-anything- to bring some money in.

It's kind of cute in a pathetic way.

Dawna finally understood why they said to wait six weeks after having a baby to start back to "a normal sex life" again. She was beyond exhausted, and that was with help! And Henry WAS a help. Beyond a help, in fact. There were nights Nathaniel would start to cry and she'd wake up thinking she just couldn't drag herself out of bed to deal with everything, and without a word, Henry would slip out of bed and change the baby, bringing him to bed so she could feed him. They made quite the team really.

But, then... six weeks (well, seven really) of not having sex was enough to drive her mad, so when she had her appointment and was cleared... well, she literally skipped home. Well, as much as one COULD skip pushing a carriage with a six week old baby in it. She also stopped on the way to pick up condoms. Much as she loved her son, she really didn't want to wind up with darling number 2 in nine months.

They had a quiet night. Dinner, holding the baby, reading, putting the baby to bed and snuggling on the sofa. She felt sleepy, but she wasn't about to go to bed... or if she did, it wasn't going to be to sleep.

"So," she said with a grin, "my appointment went well today." And suddenly, she was blushing.

Dawna had all of the tea things laid out, properly. She was very much looking forward to meeting Nicholas' friend Elie. She'd heard a lot of very nice things about the young woman.

She had several kinds of tea laid out, figuring Elie could choose which tea to have, and she'd made sandwiches and several kinds of desserts. Plus scones, which were her own favourite. Especially when it was served with clotted cream and lemon curd.

She laid out the napkins and the teaspoons, pacing a little. She was always nervous meeting new people. Her life was very quiet, except when she went out on book tours. And then she usually stayed in her rooms at the hotels until it was time to make an appearance, and then ran back to them as soon as it was over. She LIKED her quiet life, but she knew it was important to meet people, especially friends of her children.

She finally sat, waiting for Nicholas and Elie to arrive.

Almost time to give birth. Scary.

((Officially, 8 days until Nathaniel is born. Gonna try to get threads that aren't resolved by sex (no matter if it's concluded or not), or sleeping... or anything else that's remotely okay to stop at, wrapped up. Not because we've lost intrest, but some of the things are from forever ago, and to move Dawna and Henry forward? It's time to go on. *grins* Plus? In 8 days, there's gonna be another aspect to their lives!))




Dawna was beyond uncomfortable. Her due date was coming up quickly and the closer it got, the more irritated she got with everything. Not to mention it was hot. Not that anyone else thought it was hot but SHE was hot and that drove her nuts.

She had finally decided to get into a cool bath, hoping for some relief. But then, when she was ready to get out of the tub, she could hardly get up and then she was sweat covered again and she'd had to shower quickly before waddling (WADDLING!) to bed and laying down, pulling the towel up to cover her face. She felt like crying... not just crying, but honestly sobbing. She'd cry into the pillow, but she couldn't turn onto her stomach to do so, and... ugh. She let the tears flow from her eyes and practicaly into her ears, frustrated and ready to do something drastic, if she only had the energy.

She fell asleep with the tears still drying on her face.

Guys, there's something really really mean happening on Rose's journal. I would like to say here and now that Dawna, Echo and I have NOTHING to do with it. Jesus, people. Be nice!

Seriously, even if I don't like her... giving Rose ideas about how to kill herself? EVIL.
